How to Change Pressure on the ResMed AirMini Travel CPAP Machine (Clinical Menu Guide)

If you’re using the ResMed AirMini AutoSet Travel CPAP Machine, most settings are controlled through the AirMini app.

However, there is also a hidden clinical menu that allows access to advanced therapy settings. This guide walks you through how to access it and explains what each setting means and how they work together.

Step 1: Download the AirMini App

Start by downloading the AirMini app on your smartphone:

Once installed, open the app and begin setup.

Step 2: Connect Your AirMini to the App

Follow the setup process:

  • Open the app and proceed through the welcome screen
  • Press the Bluetooth button on your AirMini device
  • Confirm connection in the app
  • Enter the AirMini serial number (located on the back of the device)
  • Select your mask type:
    • ResMed AirMini P10 Mask Pack for AirMini
    • ResMed AirFit N30 Mask Pack for AirMini
    • ResMed AirFit N20 / AirTouch N20 (requires separate N20 Setup Pack)
    • ResMed AirFit F20 / AirTouch F20 (requires separate F20 Setup Pack)
    • ResMed AirFit F30 (requires separate F30 Setup Pack)

Once completed, your AirMini will be paired and ready.

Step 3: Access the Clinical Menu

access the clinical menu press logos

To unlock the clinical settings:

  • Wait until the app displays both the ResMed and AirMini logos
  • Place one finger on each logo
  • Hold for approximately 3 seconds

This will open the clinical menu.

If the logos do not appear:

  • Tap the Bluetooth icon in the app
  • Return to the screen
  • Try again

Step 4: Make Changes and Save

  • Adjust the required settings
  • Select Apply to save changes

Important Reminder

Only adjust settings according to your prescribed therapy.

Changes to pressure or therapy modes should always be confirmed with your doctor or sleep specialist.

Understanding the AirMini Clinical Settings

Once inside the clinical menu, the most important setting to understand first is Mode, as it controls how the machine behaves and which other settings appear.

Therapy Mode (Controls All Other Settings)

CPAP Mode (Fixed Pressure)

  • Delivers one constant pressure all night
  • No automatic adjustments

When CPAP mode is selected:

  • Pressure is set to a single value
  • Min and Max pressure settings are not used
  • Response setting is not available

AutoSet Mode

  • Automatically adjusts pressure throughout the night
  • Responds to breathing changes such as apneas, flow limitation, and snoring

When AutoSet is selected:

  • You set a pressure range
    • Minimum Pressure
    • Maximum Pressure
  • Pressure adjusts within this range

Typical range:
4.0 to 20.0 cmH₂O, adjustable in 0.2 increments

AutoSet for Her Mode

  • Uses a modified ResMed algorithm
  • Adjusts pressure more gradually and smoothly

Compared to standard AutoSet:

  • Slower pressure increases
  • Less abrupt changes during sleep

This mode is often preferred for:

  • Users sensitive to pressure changes
  • Lighter sleepers

The Response setting is not available in this mode, as the gentler behavior is already built into the algorithm.

Pressure Settings (Auto Modes Only)

These settings appear only when using AutoSet or AutoSet for Her.

Minimum Pressure

  • The starting pressure
  • The lowest pressure the machine will deliver

Maximum Pressure

  • The upper pressure limit
  • Prevents pressure from exceeding a set level

The machine automatically adjusts pressure between these two values during the night.

Response (AutoSet Only)

This setting controls how quickly pressure changes occur.

  • Standard
    • Faster response to breathing events
    • More active pressure adjustments
  • Soft
    • Slower, more gradual pressure increases
    • Reduced sensitivity to changes

This option is only available in AutoSet mode.

Ramp Time

Ramp controls how therapy begins and how quickly pressure increases.

Available options:

  • Off
  • 5 to 45 minutes (in 5-minute intervals)
  • Auto (AutoRamp)

How it works:

  • In AutoSet → starts at your minimum pressure
  • In CPAP → starts at a lower pressure and gradually increases to your fixed pressure
  • Timed Ramp gradually increases pressure over the selected time
  • AutoRamp maintains a lower starting pressure (based on your minimum pressure) and increases once sleep is detected based on your breathing

Ramp is a comfort feature and does not change your prescribed pressure.

EPR (Expiratory Pressure Relief)

EPR reduces pressure when you exhale, making breathing more comfortable.

Levels:

  • Off
  • 1 (low relief)
  • 2 (moderate relief)
  • 3 (maximum relief)

EPR Type:

  • Ramp Only → active only during ramp
  • Full Time → active throughout therapy

If Ramp is set to Off and EPR is set to Ramp Only, EPR will not remain active during therapy.

Mask Type Setting

This ensures the machine is calibrated correctly based on your mask.

Options include:

  • Nasal
  • Nasal pillow
  • Full face

Always match this setting to the mask you are using.

SmartStart and SmartStop

SmartStart

  • Automatically starts therapy when you begin breathing

SmartStop

  • Automatically stops therapy when the mask is removed

These are convenience features and can be turned on or off.

When Should You Adjust Settings?

You can adjust comfort settings based on preference:

  • Ramp time
  • EPR level
  • Response (AutoSet only)

However, these should not be changed without guidance:

  • Therapy mode
  • Pressure settings (Min / Max / CPAP level)

Final Takeaway

Accessing the clinical menu on the ResMed AirMini AutoSet Travel CPAP Machine is straightforward once you know the steps:

  • Connect through the app
  • Use the two-finger hold to unlock the menu
  • Understand how Mode controls the rest of the settings
  • Adjust only what is appropriate
  • Always save your changes

A clear understanding of these settings ensures your therapy remains both comfortable and effective.
