How Does This Affect New Purchases?
For ResMed machines purchased after February 1st, 2020, damages due to the use of ozone machines, which includes but is not limited to SoClean machines, will not be covered under their limited warranty.
How Does This Affect Previous Purchases?
For ResMed machines purchased prior to February 1st, 2020, that are still within their limited warranty period, ResMed will honour device refurbishment or replacement for these devices submitted with ozone damage by April 30th, 2020.
Does This Affect Mask Warranties?
ResMed AirTouch products (eg. AirTouch F20) will be affected as well. AirTouch purchases prior to February 1st, 2020 with ozone damage will still have their warranties honoured until April 30th, 2020. Any new purchases will not be covered for ozone damage. No other masks or accessories are affected at this time.
Does This Affect the Use of Lumin Sanitizing Machines?
No, Lumin machines use UVC light to sanitize masks & accessories, not ozone. In addition, they are not connected directly to machines.
Why is ResMed Not Covering Ozone Damage?
ResMed user guides advise patients to periodically clean ResMed machines, components and masks with mild detergent and warm water only. Some patients choose to use other means to clean and/or disinfect their machines. With the increased use of ozone devices, ResMed has observed that prolonged and repeated use of an ozone device may eventually cause internal damage to a ResMed machine, leading to an increase in motor noise.
Does This Mean I Can't Use My SoClean or Other Ozone Device?
We are not taking a position on whether you should use an ozone device. That decision is up to you, as the patient, to balance the convenience of using an ozone device versus the likelihood of potential damage to your ResMed machine and products and the affect it has on your warranty. |
